My first year of Christmas lights consisted of all homemade lights and controllers. On either side of my garage, I had the small pixel array shown. Since, I am no longer using them in my show, I made them into a stand alone sign. It basically just runs sequences.
Each board has five RGB LED’s which are controlled by a PIC processor. The processor performs both the sequencing the pulse width modulation to drive each LED. There is also a RS-232 receiver chip on the board, and the circuit cards communicate using standard serial at 115.2Kbaud.
Since, these were used for the first year and are now not in my show, I have plenty of the circuits if anyone has a small project in need.
